This helps them grow in curiosity, critical thinking, and international-mindedness as they investigate their world.
Building confident communicators from the start
Through stories, songs, dramatic play, and rich conversation, children develop early speaking, listening, and pre-reading skills.
They build vocabulary, phonemic awareness, and a genuine love of books, setting the stage for confident reading and writing in the years ahead.
Discovering numbers through play and problem-solving
At our preschool in Metairie Louisiana, children explore numbers, patterns, shapes, and measurement using hands-on manipulatives and real-world challenges.
This playful, practical approach nurtures early number sense and encourages children to think logically, notice patterns, and solve problems with growing independence.
Exploring our world and our place within it
Through inquiry-based investigations, children observe plants, animals, weather, and simple experiments that spark curiosity about the natural world.
At the same time, they begin to understand themselves as part of a family, a community, and a wider world where belonging, respect, and global citizenship are key.
Making thinking visible through creativity
Drawing, painting, collage, and simple sculpture invite children to express ideas, emotions, and stories in visual form.
These creative experiences develop imagination, fine-motor skills, and confidence, while helping children see themselves as capable, original artists.
Learning through rhythm, song, and dance
Singing, rhythm games, instruments, and creative movement bring learning to life.
At our preschool in Metairie, LA, children develop coordination, body awareness, and listening skills, while building confidence, joy, and a sense of community through shared musical experiences.
Growing strong bodies and healthy habits
Daily outdoor play and age-appropriate physical activities help children build balance, coordination, and gross-motor strength.
Through both structured games and free play, they learn teamwork, turn-taking, and the importance of staying active and healthy.
Opening young minds to a second language
At Kehoe-France Southshore, Spanish is introduced in a playful, accessible way through songs, stories, games, and simple conversations.
Children begin to recognize sounds, words, and phrases in a new language, fostering early global awareness and confidence in communicating beyond their mother tongue.
Hands-on exploration for young inventors
Early STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) experiences invite children to build, design, test, and explore.
Using age-appropriate tools and materials, they experiment with cause and effect, simple structures, and basic problem-solving - developing curiosity, creativity, and resilience as young innovators.
Connecting learning through big ideas
From Pre-K3, children learn through IB PYP units of inquiry that weave together all subject areas under meaningful, real-world themes such as Who We Are, How the World Works, and Sharing the Planet.
These big ideas encourage children to ask questions, think critically, and take age-appropriate action - helping them see connections between their classroom, their community, and the wider world.

As children move into Preschool and Kindergarten, we stay closely connected with families so academic achievement, social growth, and emotional wellbeing are visible and shared. Daily Seesaw updates give parents a real-time window into classroom learning, student work, and early skills developing over time.
Weekly newsletters share upcoming events, current units of inquiry, and key reminders, helping families stay informed about what their child is learning and how it connects to school life. Quarterly parent–teacher conferences focus on progress, celebrating strengths and agreeing clear next steps, with additional meetings available whenever families would like more in-depth discussions.
Throughout the year, learning comes to life through classroom showcases, performances and project displays, where students present what they’ve achieved.
Children in Preschool and Kindergarten continue to grow the life competencies that will support them far beyond the early years. In warm, play-based and inquiry-driven classrooms, they learn to think more deeply, communicate clearly, and work well with others. They practice sharing, taking turns, and solving conflicts respectfully, while daily routines help them recognize and manage their emotions, care for their belongings, and contribute to a tidy, welcoming environment.
Through storytelling, small‑group projects, and hands-on investigations, children ask questions, explore different ideas and experiment with creative solutions when faced with challenges. As they discover their role in the classroom, family, and wider community, they begin to see themselves as confident, caring contributors who can take initiative and make a difference.
Linked to the IB Learner Profile, these experiences nurture curiosity, resilience, empathy and integrity, ensuring children are not only learning key skills but also developing as thoughtful, balanced, and globally aware young learners.
From the preschool years, English language development is a central focus every day. Children strengthen receptive and expressive skills through read‑alouds, rich classroom talk, songs, and storytelling. In these playful, inquiry-based experiences, they extend their vocabulary, refine pronunciation, and deepen their understanding of stories and ideas.
From Preschool through Kindergarten, multilingualism becomes a more intentional strand of the learning journey. Building on the natural, playful exposure of the earliest years, students now take part in Spanish language acquisition through regular specialist lessons as well as Spanish woven into daily classroom routines.
Through songs, stories, games, and simple conversations, children begin to recognize and use everyday Spanish words and phrases. They explore greetings, colors, numbers, classroom instructions, and familiar topics such as family, food, and animals. Learning remains active and communicative, with plenty of singing, movement and role-play so that using more than one language feels engaging, purposeful and achievable for every child.
From Preschool to Kindergarten
At Kehoe-France Southshore, children move from Preschool (PK3–PK4), where they grow social-emotional skills and inquiry habits through rich, play-based experiences, into Kindergarten (age 5), where IB PYP units and more focused reading, writing, and numeracy strengthen their thinking, independence, and confidence for the elementary years ahead.
Reggio-Emilia inspired learning
At one of the best preschools in Metairie, children engage in Reggio-Emilia inspired learning through flexible, interest-led environments, and material-rich, hands-on spaces where their ideas drive what happens next. They make meaningful choices during learning centers - selecting art materials to represent a story, building structures with loose parts, or exploring natural objects from the playground. As they explore their surroundings, teachers gently scaffold expressive language and peer socialization, encouraging children to describe their thinking, listen to classmates and work together to solve problems or create shared projects.
Families at Kehoe-France can take advantage of flexible Extended Care options that support busy schedules while keeping children safe, happy, and engaged beyond the regular school day. Â
Students may arrive early for Before Care from 7am to 7:30am, then, after a full day of learning, unwind in After Care from 3:30pm to 5:30pm with a balance of recreation, homework time, and creative play in a relaxed, well-supervised environment.Â
