Children in Grades 1 – 4 complete NWEA MAP assessments three times a year to track individual growth in reading, language, mathematics, and science, helping teachers tailor instruction and set personalised goals. Quarterly report cards, using a 10-point grading scale, show achievement across all subjects, including enrichment and Approaches to Learning skills.
Ongoing feedback through Seesaw, parent–teacher conferences, and classroom reflections keeps families closely connected to their child’s academic journey. Students build powerful life competencies throughout the elementary years at Kehoe-France, grounded in the IB Learner Profile. Through inquiry-based learning, collaboration, and regular reflection, they grow as inquirers, thinkers, and communicators who take ownership of their ideas and progress.
At the same time, they develop personal qualities that shape who they are becoming - they act with care and integrity, stay open-minded to new perspectives and cultures, and learn to stay balanced and reflective as they manage school, friendships, and their own wellbeing.
Aligned with the IB framework, students also strengthen core Approaches to Learning skills – thinking, communication, self-management, research, and social skills – that sit behind every subject and stage, so they can adapt, solve problems, and lead their own learning with confidence.
Elementary students continue second-language learning in Spanish as a special-area class, using conversation, songs, stories, and games to build listening and speaking skills before adding reading and writing.
As they connect language to culture, traditions, and IB Units of Inquiry, students strengthen communication, deepen cultural understanding, and begin to see themselves as global citizens who can use Spanish to make real connections beyond their own community.

These global experiences sit alongside local and regional field trips to museums, nature centres, community landmarks, and cultural events that bring IB PYP units of inquiry to life and help students see the links between what they learn and the world around them.
By combining the IB PYP philosophy with ISP’s global network, Kehoe-France nurtures a global mindset and local action, so students learn that their voices matter, build friendships across borders and grow the confidence, compassion and curiosity to thrive as citizens of the world.
iPads for early learners
In Grades 1–3, students use 1:1 iPads kept in classroom carts and accessed daily for learning. At Kehoe-France Southshore, teachers weave iPads into lessons to strengthen reading, writing, math, and creativity through interactive apps, research, and digital storytelling. Along the way, students build responsible tech habits while using platforms such as Seesaw, IXL, and BrainPOP.
Stepping up with Chromebooks
By Grade 4, students move to 1:1 Chromebooks, with a dedicated cart in each classroom. This transition develops digital fluency, keyboarding, and confidence with Google Workspace tools like Docs, Slides, and Classroom. Learning activities promote both independence and collaboration, helping students get ready for Middle School technology expectations.
