Through inquiry, play, storytelling, and projects, they strengthen communication, collaboration, critical thinking, and responsibility while connecting daily experiences to the IB Learner Profile and Approaches to Learning, laying the groundwork for lifelong learning.
In our Preschool and Kindergarten in Covington, children begin to name and recognize the life skills they are practicing. They see themselves as inquirers, thinkers, communicators and caring friends, and they start to understand what it means to be balanced, principled, open‑minded and reflective. These attributes - and the Approaches to Learning skills that sit behind them - become practical tools that guide how they learn, relate to others, and engage with the world around them.
From the preschool years, language development in English remains a daily priority. Children build strong receptive and expressive skills through read‑alouds, rich conversation, songs, and storytelling, developing a growing vocabulary, clearer pronunciation and deeper narrative comprehension in meaningful, play-based and inquiry-based contexts.
From Preschool through Kindergarten, multilingualism becomes a more intentional part of the learning journey. Building on the playful exposure of Early Childhood, children now experience Spanish Language Acquisition through regular specialist lessons alongside language embedded in classroom routines.
Through songs, stories, games, and simple conversations, students begin to understand and use every day Spanish vocabulary and phrases. They practice greetings, colors, numbers, classroom instructions and familiar topics such as family, food, and animals. Learning is active and communicative, with plenty of singing, movement and role-play.
From Preschool to Kindergarten
Our young learners progress from Preschool (PK3–PK4), where they develop early social skills and inquiry habits through play, into Kindergarten, where IB PYP units and emerging reading, writing, and numeracy skills strengthen their thinking, confidence, and readiness for elementary learning.
Reggio-Emilia inspired approach
Little learners thrive in spaces where Reggio-Emilia inspired environments and the IB Primary Years Programme work together. Classrooms act as a “third teacher,” with flexible centers, rich manipulatives, and open-ended materials that invite exploration, choice, and collaboration. Teachers observe children’s interests - building, gardening, storytelling - and use them to shape play-based, inquiry-driven experiences within IB PYP units.
We are grateful for a school that nurtures curious inquirers, caring hearts, and confident individuals - a beautiful beginning to a lifelong journey of learning!

I truly enjoy spending my days with preschoolers - their joy, curiosity, and enthusiasm make each day unique. Through play and exploration, I guide and support my students as they learn, grow, and discover the world around them.
