At Kehoe-France, assessment is part of learning, not separate from it. Students don’t track their own progress, set goals, and see their growth in real time.
Students in Grades 1–4 take NWEA MAP assessments twice a year in reading, language, mathematics, and science, so teachers can pesonalized instruction and students can see how far they’ve come. Quarterly report cards, a clear 7-point grading scale, and regular updates on Seesaw, plus parent–teacher conferences, keep families closely connected to classroom learning.
Academic success is more than a test score. Students celebrate milestones when they master a new concept, persist with a tricky problem or show IB Learner Profile attributes in action. Throughout the year, classroom showcases, performances and project displays bring learning to life, giving families a front-row seat to their child’s growing confidence, creativity, and independence.
With data-driven insights and individualized support, every student is seen, challenged and celebrated as they step up as confident, capable learners ready for the next stage.
Throughout the Elementary years at Kehoe-France, students build the academic and personal life competencies they need to thrive beyond school.
Grounded in the IB Learner Profile and Approaches to Learning, they grow as inquirers, thinkers, communicators, caring and principled classmates, open-minded global citizens, and balanced, reflective individuals who know how to learn, collaborate, and lead with integrity.
They also strengthen key ATL skills that support success across all subjects: thinking, communication, self-management, research and social skills.
In Elementary School, students continue dedicated Spanish lessons that deepen the skills introduced in the Early Years. The curriculum, aligned with Louisiana state standards, emphasizes real-world communication and comprehension in reading, writing, speaking, and listening. Learners expand their vocabulary, begin to read short texts, and write simple sentences, while practicing everyday conversations and classroom routines in Spanish.
Activities such as role-play, storytelling, and projects help students apply the language in authentic, age-appropriate situations so that, by the end of Elementary, they can participate confidently in simple conversations.
Each year, students engage in ISP's International Learning Opportunities for Students (ILOS) such as ISP Artists, ISP Scientists, ISP Chess Masters, and the ISP Virtual Exchange, broadening their global perspectives and connecting with peers worldwide. These programs inspire students to pursue their passions in creativity, STEM, leadership and service, and prepare them for success in a connected world.
In addition, students connect learning with real life through local field trips to museums, nature centers, community landmarks and cultural events, deepening their IB PYP units of inquiry and building curiosity and confidence.
Linked to International Schools Partnership’s global network and international learning opportunities, these everyday experiences help students see how local action and global citizenship go hand in hand, so they grow as compassionate young people who know their voice matters in their community and in the wider world.
Students in Grades 1–3 use 1:1 iPads, stored in classroom carts and available daily to support learning across reading, writing, math, and creative subjects through interactive apps, research, and digital storytelling, while building responsible technology habits with various platform, such as Seesaw and IXL.
Fourth-grade students transition to 1:1 Chromebooks, further developing independence as they collaborate on projects, conduct research, and manage assignments through Google Classroom in preparation for Middle School.
