Students at Kehoe-France Middle School in Covington build academic achievement through a balanced assessment program that supports continuous growth and celebrates progress. They take NWEA MAP Growth assessments in Reading, Language, Mathematics, and Science each fall and spring.
These adaptive assessments provide insights into each learner’s current level and growth, allowing teachers to personalize instruction, set meaningful goals, and challenge every student appropriately.
Kehoe-France students consistently show strong growth, often surpassing national averages, reflecting the strength of the curriculum, the expertise of our teachers, and students’ dedication to their learning journey.
Middle school students develop essential life skills as a core pillar of their learning. Through the Approaches to Learning skills (ATLs) - Thinking, Communication, Social, Self-Management, and Research - students build abilities they will rely on throughout life. They analyze and create, share ideas clearly, collaborate with peers, stay organized, and use information responsibly.
Alongside these skills, students cultivate key life and leadership competencies, including confidence and self-advocacy, collaboration, empathy and global awareness, adaptability and resilience, and integrity and responsibility. Step by step, they take greater ownership of their choices, lead with empathy, and adapt to new challenges - preparing them for increased independence and success in high school and beyond.
In Middle School, Spanish study becomes more structured and analytical while remaining active and engaging. Students consolidate their listening and speaking skills and make significant progress in reading and writing, working with more complex texts, dialogues, and written tasks. Grammar and vocabulary are developed in ways that support clear, accurate communication.
As IB learners and members of a global ISP community, students also explore cultural aspects of Spanish-speaking countries, connecting language learning to real people, places, and perspectives. This balanced approach prepares them for continued language study in high school and for confident participation in an increasingly multilingual world.
At KFNS, learning genuinely goes global. As part of the International Schools Partnership, Middle School students connect with classmates around the world through ISP’s International Learning Opportunities for Students, sharing ideas, solving real problems, and celebrating creativity in authentic international contexts. By taking part in ISP Artists, the ISP Virtual Exchange Program, ISP Changemakers, ISP Scientists, and ISP Chess Masters, they strengthen their curiosity, communication skills, and sense of global citizenship.
Alongside these global experiences, students also step into the world beyond campus through local and regional, curriculum-based field trips, including the Whitney Plantation, State Capitol, and science museums. Outdoor education camping trips in Grades 5–7 and Grade 7 international travel to ISP partner schools.
Students at KFNS begin their life and career pathways with a strong academic foundation. Our curricular framework challenges them to think critically, manage their time effectively, and apply learning across disciplines. By mastering essential skills in Reading, Writing, Mathematics, Science and Research, students leave Kehoe-France ready to thrive in college-preparatory high school programs and to pursue future goals with confidence.
Twice a year, students also sit NWEA MAP assessments; teachers use these results to monitor growth, identify strengths and provide targeted support so that every learner meets high school entrance expectations and is well prepared for greater independence and responsibility.
