A Day at KF Summer Camp

Kehoe-France Camps

Established 1949

Kehoe-France Camps offer an ideal opportunity for boys and girls to grow in the physical, mental, social and emotional dimensions. The camps and the staffs provide each camper the advantage of adventure, fun, breadth, growth and education.

Patricia Kehoe France and Frank A. France founded Kehoe-France Camp in 1949. Today their sons continue to operate the camps with emphasis on the individual camper. Our camps promote outstanding leadership and an enrichment of experiences so that all campers may more fully understand themselves as they relate to others and the environment around them.

All camp activities are conducted on our private school campuses. There are two Kehoe-France Camp sites consisting of 14 acres in Metairie and 12 acres in Covington. We provide swimming pools, tennis courts, gymnasium, indoor activity center, several pavilions, arts and crafts areas, computer lab, library and numerous playing fields.

Little Pioneer Summer Camp Program

Our Little Pioneer Camp Program (infants)  provides a caring, nurturing environment that fosters encouragement in language development, thinking and problem solving which provides building blocks for success with future learning. It advocates open communication with parents, for parents ultimately play the most vital role in a child's intellectual development. We all share a common priority of providing the best for each baby. Working together in a real "team" approach will ultimately give each child every opportunity for success.

A consistent daily routine supports active learning and builds on children’s interests. Our babies are provided with hands-on experiences that are supported by adults. In the Little Pioneer House, the daily routine is planned out to fit the best needs of the children. Both meal times and nap times are scheduled around each child’s individual needs. During play time, the children interact with age appropriate toys, have read-aloud time, music and movement, and outdoor stroller rides. We fill the day with learning experiences that incorporate strategies for building relationships and increasing children’s comfort and confidence at camp and instructional strategies to facilitate receptive and expressive language acquisition and understanding. Our camp program ensures that counselors are prepared with the tools they need to meet the needs of every baby!

Children Center Camp Program

Our Children Center Camp Program (One, Two, and Three-Year Olds) provides campers with a friendly environment and welcoming atmosphere. Campers are encouraged to be creative, confident thinkers. That means offering them opportunities for hands-on exploration and discovery that help build lifelong critical thinking skills and foster confidence. Our highly qualified and experienced staff encourage, support, and meet the needs of every camper. Our program is play-based, individualized, supportive, and FUN!

A consistent daily routine supports active learning and builds on children’s interests. Our campers are provided with hands-on experiences that are supported by adults. The daily camp routine is broken up into both small and large group meetings, choice time, where the children interact in play-based centers, snack and lunch times, read-aloud time, outdoor/physical play, music and movement, and rest time (12:30-2:30). Campers also participate in “Water Play Wednesdays.” During this time, your camper will engage in water play activities like water tables and sprinklers!! We hope you and your camper(s) are ready for a great summer!

Kehoe-France Day Camp: 4-13 Year Olds

Having been established in 1949, Kehoe-France Day Camp is the oldest and most experienced camp in the New Orleans area. We promote the development of the individual by providing outstanding leadership and an enrichment of experiences.

Our camp program for 4-13 year olds is designed around our swimming program which involves swimming instruction and free swim each day. Campers also participate in tennis, field sports, ceramics, arts and crafts, computers and much more. Special events consist of frog races, crazy hat day, watermelon day, ice cream parties and rock wall climbing.

Kehoe-France Camp places a high priority on swim instruction. Each camper receives swimming instruction every day. Qualified water safety instructors supervise, teach and administer tests at various levels.

Field Games and Outside Excitement

Kehoe-France Camp provides large outdoor spaces for campers to run and play. During the camp season there are baseball, kickball and flag football games, horseshoe tournaments and participate in track events. Our staff instructs and referee the games and often join in the fun. We have a jungle gym, spacewalk, swings, tetherball, volleyball and outdoor basketball goals. Ping pong tables are set up in various areas around campus. Our campers enjoy the outdoors, fresh air, trees and the beautiful camp environment.

There is plenty of time set aside for activities in the gym. We play court games such as volleyball and basketball and have fun playing with a large variety of indoor games.

Arts, Crafts and Ceramics

Kehoe-France Camp has a remarkable arts and crafts. Experienced and creative leaders motivate campers to discover talents and artistic expression in a wide variety of media. Campers paint, create paper crafts, art projects and make ceramics.

Campers in the upper groups visit the computer lab a minimum of twice weekly. They have a wide variety of games to choose from including Minecraft.

Fun and Excitement

Campers at Kehoe-France are divided into groups known as the Chippewa and Pawnee Tribes. The oldest campers elect leaders for each tribe and all members of each tribe compete during the camp session by participating in weekly Pow-Wow and camp activities each day. At the closing exercise on the last day of camp the tribe with the most points wins the tribe trophy.

Special activities include Frog races, Crazy Hat Day, Watermelon Day and much more. Campers also enjoy special treats such as snowballs and popsicles to keep cool.

Camp Uniforms

Kehoe-France camp uniforms are required every day. Uniform order forms will be forwarded to you upon receipt of your child’s application. All campers must wear a cap in the swimming pool.

Campers may bring lunch from home or order lunch at camp through our prepaid lunch program. Prices and selections of sandwiches, hot lunches and drinks will be listed in correspondence to you before camp opens.

The Kehoe-France Day Camp staff are chosen based on character, experience, personality, loyalty and ability to work successfully with campers. Our staff is composed primarily of teachers and coaches, college women and men and other trained in this type of recreation and education. Some of our staff are previous campers themselves. The ratio is one counselor to eight campers.
