Chess is widely believed to increase “mental muscle” and there are a variety of studies that support the contention that chess enhances memory, increases problem solving capabilities, and strengthens logical thinking. Many schools encourage chess play to increase academic performance and it is a fun way for students to learn to think and solve difficult problems. The goal is to eventually have chess competitions against other schools.
The Chess Club is open to all students in grades 3-7, regardless of ability. Those who participate receive basic instruction a play matches against students of similar ability and experience.
