The Kehoe-France Band is an award-winning music program comprised of approximately 30-40 students. Students study music theory and history by way of traditional band instruments and in later years, drumset, bass guitar, and electric keyboard. Students average approximately ten performances a year including pep rallies, Halloween, Veteran’s Day, Winter, and Spring Concerts. Performing ensembles have consistently received top honors at the Archdiocesan Band Festival and the Louisiana Music Educator’s Association Large Ensemble Festival. Kehoe-France understands the importance of exposing young musicians to the diverse musical heritage available in southern Louisiana. Students regularly enjoy educational field trips to the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra, The House of Blues, The New Orleans Jazz National Historical Park, The New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival, and Grammy Soundcheck Live. Such Q&A sessions have even included legendary rock band Journey! In addition to those performances, students have been exposed to ‘in house’ concerts by The Marine Wind Ensemble, The Navy Show Band, the Navy Full Steam Brass Band, The House of Blues, nationally renown trombone rock band Bonerama, and The Bucktown All-Stars.
The K-F Band program boasts alumni that have majored in music at Texas A&M University, Loyola University New Orleans, Louisiana State University (LSU Tigerband 2006 Drum Major), New York University, Berklee College of Music, and Harvard. Music alum have also gone on to perform on Broadway and other local commercial films.
